Reading First is
a federally funded, 6 year grant that we received beginning in 2003. Our district receives roughly $250,000 each
year. The goal is that, “All children will be reading at or above grade level by the end of grade 3.” The purpose
is to: diagnose and address reading difficulties early, base instruction on the 5 areas of reading (Phonemic Awareness,
Phonics, Vocabulary, Comprehension and Fluency) using only SBRR programs, give teachers the training they need,
and constantly assess progress using DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) and Stanford Reading
Assessment. |
